Governor Rick Perry Headlines CALA 2008 Annual Event
Almost 200 Central Texans were treated to the “world premiere” of a new television ad promoting jury duty and featuring Governor Rick Perry at CALA of Central Texas’ third annual public awareness- and fund-raising event held on Nov. 5, 2008.
Governor Rick Perry graciously gave of his time to star in the ad and also to appear at the event as CALA’s special guest, held in downtown Austin at The Headliners Club. The event was the most successful yet for CALA.
In his remarks, Governor Perry thanked CALA and its supporters for their role in making Texas a national leader in civil justice reform. But, with the 2009 legislative session on the horizon, he urged supporters not to be complacent, as personal injury lawyers and other special interest groups will be looking to convince lawmakers to pass legislation that could open the door for new, frivolous litigation.
Funds raised during the evening will help CALA of Central Texas continue to educate the public about the costs and consequences of lawsuit abuse.
