Three local community leaders recently joined the Board of Directors of Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) of Central Texas, a legal watchdog group. The board members will steer the nonprofit, community coalition in its mission to raise awareness about the cost and consequences of lawsuit abuse.
Joining the Board are Dr. C. Mark Chassay, manager and physician, Texas Sports & Family Medicine; Jill Shackelford, president, Industrial Asphalt Inc.; and Paul Workman, secretary, Workman Commercial Construction Services Ltd.
“Our new board members bring an energy and dedication to Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse of Central Texas because they have seen first-hand the harm that meritless lawsuits can inflict on small businesses, our healthcare system and private citizens alike,” said CALA Chairman Fred Heldenfels IV, president and CEO of Heldenfels Enterprises, Inc. “Together we will work to strengthen the civil justice system on both the local and state level.”
Other members of the CALA of Central Texas Board include:
- Karen Easterling, State Farm Insurance.
- Chip Hough, managing partner, Basic Industries of South Texas.
- Bobby Jenkins, president of ABC Pest and Lawn Services.
- Darryl Jordan, vice president of risk management and chief risk officer for Seton Family of Hospitals.
- Clay McPhail, president and CEO of Cozumel Restaurant Group, operating as El Arroyo.
