Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse of Central Texas (CALACTX), a leading grassroots organization that stands on the front lines in the battle against lawsuit abuse, continues to work to raise awareness of the cost and consequences of lawsuit abuse and to actively support needed reforms at the Texas Capitol.
As part of our work, CALACTX will host a legislative preview and lawsuit reform reception to coincide with the start of the legislative session. Ross Ramsey with the Texas Tribune will serve as the keynote media speaker for this event on Jan. 24 and Chairman Todd Hunter will participate in a legislative panel discussion on lawsuit reform priorities in the 2017 session. We expect this event to attract lawmakers, members of the business community and other members of the reform community.
In 2017 CALACTX is we focused on a myriad of issues including the cost and consequences of excessive, abusive hailstorm lawsuits that do more to line the pockets of a handful of lawyers than helping Texans. We are also focused on educating Texans about the dangers of outlandish and misleading lawyer advertisements designed to drum up clients but that can also scare patients off of needed medications. You can find out more about our “What The Hail” and “Don’t Let a Lawyer Be Your Doctor” campaigns and other issues on our website at www.calactx.com. At the legislature, we also will strongly support efforts to rein in abusive ADA lawsuits in Texas, which is a hot topic for all manner of small businesses as many have been targeted in Austin and across the state.
We invite you to consider joining us as an event sponsor or guest.
